SAITAMA -- Police investigating a case in which a 5-year-old boy was found dead at a house in Saitama Prefecture in March, leading to the arrest of his mother and two others, said on June 6 that they had found another corpse in the house.

The skeletonized corpse was found under the floor of the residence in Honjo, Saitama Prefecture. Based on DNA analysis, the body was identified as that of an elderly woman who had lived there. Saitama Prefectural Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to the prefectural police, investigators discovered the corpse of the woman while searching for the body of Ayumu, the son of Chika Kakimoto, 30, a temporary worker who had also lived in the house.

The elderly woman's body was skeletonized, and no damage could be confirmed. Police did not disclose the woman's name or other details relating to her identity because the investigation is ongoing.

Kakimoto was arrested and charged with fatally assaulting Ayumu and abandoning his body. On June 6, the prefectural police served fresh arrest warrants to Kakimoto and Yoko Ishii, 54, an unemployed woman who lived with Kakimoto, on suspicion of assault. Ishii was also charged with the same crimes as Kakimoto.

The two were served arrest warrants for allegedly assaulting Ayumu in January and March 2021 by hanging him upside down by his legs and slapping his face. The prefectural police have not revealed how they are pleading.
